Ormskirk Guardsman Killed

A picture of
George McLoughlin
is included in the
original article

Mrs Jessie McLoughlin of 31 Ravenscroft Avenue, Ormskirk, received official news on Saturday morning, that her husband, Guardsman George McLoughlin aged 37, was killed in the fighting in Normandy of August 11th.
In a letter, his Colonel expresses deep regret at his death, and states, "The Regiment with you mourns his loss and his name will forever be held in high esteem."

Guardsman McLoughlin was the younger son of George McLoughlin, of Elm Place, Ormskirk. He was an old boy of St Anne's School, Ormskirk, and was well known in football and cricket circles in the Ormskirk distirct, for he was an all-round sportsman of great ability. He played in several matches with the Ormskirk C. C., being a fast to medium bowler.
Before the war he was employed as a brick-setter. He leaves a widow and four young children, three girls, the eldest being eight years old, and the youngest, a boy, only six months old. He had been in the Army four years.

His brother, Peter McLoughlin, was taken prisoner of war and escaped from a P.O.W. camp in Germany and is now in Switzerland.

Killed in Action

McLoughlin - Guardsman George, killed in action, N W Europe, 11th August 1944. Dearly beloved and devoted husband of Jessie and dearest daddy of Rita, Freda, Mavis and baby George; also loving brother of Peter P.O.W. Switzerland

We do not forget you, we love you too dearly,
For your memory to fade from our minde like a dream.
We need not speak when our hearts mourn sincerly,
For grief often dwells where it seldom is seen.
Loved and longed for always.
