Funeral of Mr. James Flood at Crediton

With signs of every repect, the funeral of Mr. James Flood has recently taken place at the Parish Churchyard, Crediton. The deceased was well-known in the town, and died after a few days' illness at the ripe old age of 78 years. Mr. Flood was for a great number of years agent for the " Western Times," and could be seen on his long country rounds on Tuesdays and Fridays delivering the papers until his age prevented him doing so. The Vicar (Preb. Smith-Dorrien) conducted the funeral service. The coffin was of polished elm, with heavy brass mounts, the breastplate bearing the following inscription: " James Flood, died Oct 21st. 1917, aged 78 years." The principal mourners were Mr. William Flood (brother), Mrs. R. Browning (sister), Mr. Charles Vicary (brother-in-law), Mrs. Wm. Flood (sister-in-law), Mr. Charles Flood (brother), Mrs. C Flood (sister-in-law), Mr. R. Browning (brother-in-law), and Mr. H. Cross. The bearers were friends of the deceased—Messrs. J. and F. Tothill, W. Hopper, C. Burridge, and W. and H. Harvey. There were several floral tributes.
