BODMIN'S BONNY BABIES
Bodmin's bonny babies were certainly mustered in force by their proud mothers for the baby show in the Public Rooms on Friday. Indeed, there was such an influx of late entries that at one time it seemed problematical whether there would be a sufficient supply of cards bearing the number by which the baby would be known for voting purposes, to meet all demands.
Mr. L. G. Hill, who has been Master of Ceremonies for functions of many kinds, added another to the list by directing operations on this occasion, and pointed out that the primary object of the event was to raise funds for the Russians. Instead, therefore, of doctors and nurses judging the babies they would be judged by popular vote on similar lines to the manner in which the Carnival Queen was chosen in Bodmin in happier times.
The large audience had to give their verdict on over sixty babies, there being seven entries in the class for competitors between three and six months, 24 in that in which the age limits were from six to 12 months, and 34 where they were between 12 months to two years. Selection was, therefore, by no means an easy task nor was the counting of the votes and establishing of the prizer-winners.
The first prize in each of the three classes was a photograph of the winner and a Savings Certificate, the second a photograph and Savings Stamps value 5s., and in the two larger classes there was a third prize of a photograph and a fourth award in the competition for children between 12 months and two years.
Winners were: Three to six months--1.Perrin Oliver Dyer, St Austell; 2. Robert Allen Coles. Six to 12 months--1. John Odgers; 2. Hazel Wyman; 3. Jacqueline Pedlar, Tregullon ...
