ALLEGED DESERTION : CASE ADJOURNED.

Fred Browning, an engine manufacturer's employee, of Basingstoke, was summoned for deserting his wife, Emily Eliza Browning, of Sherborne Road, Yeovil, on May 31st.

A letter was read from the defendant asking for an adjournment of the case, as the summons was only served on him on the previous Friday and he had not had time to obtain the information he wanted or to consult a solicitor. He was working on war munitions at Messrs Thorneycroft's and was very busy. His wife had known for the last nine months where he had been working. He had tried to get a home there and was quite willing to do so now.

Mr J. A. Mayo, who appeared for Mrs Browning, said he did not want to throw any obstacles in the way of all the facts coming out. He did not think the request was unreasonable,as defendant had certainly received rather short notice. As a matter of fact, defendant wrote him (Mr Mayo) and asked him to take the case, but Mrs Browning came to him first. That delayed the matter for a day or two.

The Bench adjourned the case until the next petty sessions.
