At 4.30 p.m. on the 19th he saw her come from the garden of The Briars, Old London-road, carrying a bag of apples. She said she had Mrs. Collier's permission to take them. Witness did not believe her and told her the police. - Emma Jane Collier, of The Briars, said she had not given permission for the defendant to pick the apples. She valued them at six shillings. The defendant had taken apples since the offence complained of.-The Clerk read a letter from defendant's mother stating that the two other girls were also there, and it was done in a spirit of adventure.-The bench inflicted a fine of five shillings, and ordered the defendant's parents to make good the damage.-The Mayor thanked Mr. Howell for coming forward.
