LITTLEOVER WEDDING
First Wedding at Baptist Church for a Century
Considerable enthusiasm and interest was evinced in the wedding of Miss Gladys Mary Follows, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Follows, The Woodlands, Pastures Hill, Littleover, and Mr Hector Littlefield, of Brixton, London, which took place at the Littleover Baptist Church on Wednesday. The Wedding was the first to take place in the chapel, which has been built for over a hundred years. The church was crowded and all the deacons were present at the ceremony. The Rev. H. T. Pritchard, who has only been at the church for a short period, officiated and presented the bride with a Holy Bible, suitably inscribed.
The bride, who was given away by her eldest brother, wore a gown of white chiffon broché velour with a vest of net and diamonte and a veil lent by Mrs. A. Woodcock. She carried a sheaf of lilies.
Master Derek and Miss Betty Follows nephew and niece of the bride, the two little attendants were dressed respectively in suits of blue velvet breeches and a mediæval gown of shell pink satin and gold lamé.
The bridesmaid, Miss G. Wright, friend of the bride, wore pink chiffon with gold mesh cap.
Following the ceremony a reception was held at Ramsden's Cafe and later Mr. and Mrs Littlefield left for London, where the honeymoon is being spent. The bride travelled in a coat of Cumberland tweed trimmed with fur, and a homespun hat to match.
The father of the bride is the well-known principal of Messrs. J. D. Follows and Sons, dryslters and colour merchants, Cumming-street, Derby.
