A pretty wedding was solemised in Sockleigh Pomeroy Parish Church on Saturday between Miss Eva Elizabeth Clatworthy (eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Clatworthy, of Higher North Coombe) and Mr. Richard H. J. Gooding ( third son of Mrs. Gooding and of the late Mr. Gooding, of Lilylake, Silverton).
The choral service was conducted by the Rev. C. C. Kelway. Mr. Wall was at the organ, and played the " Wedding March " as the bride entered and left the church. The hymns were " Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us," and the 121st Psalm was chanted.
The bride wore, who was given away by her father, wore a dress of salmon-pink silk marocain and a veil of embroidered silk, with a coronet of orange blossom, and pink shoes to match. She carried a bouquet of white chrysanthemums and roses, with springerii fern. Her bridesmaids were her sisters Miss Winnie and Miss Ethel Clatworthy, who looked charming in dresses of mauve silk marocain, finished with long streamers of mauve and pink ribbons and flowers. They wore halos of mauve and silver leaves, and silver shoes to match, and carried ivory Prayer-books, the gifts of the bridegroom. At the church door the bride was presented with a horseshoe, encircling a black cat, by little June Gooding (niece of the bridegroom).
The reception was held at Higher North Coombe. Mr. and Mrs. Gooding's future home will be at Silverton. The bride's bouquet was placed on the bridegroom's father's grave.
There was a large number of presents.
