FALL DOWN STAIRS
Causes Death of Southsea Woman
An old lady's death after a fall was investigated by the Deputy Borough Coroner, Mr. P. H. Childs, at an inquest held this afternoon on the body of Mrs. Mary Ann Beddle, a widow living at 13, Plymouth Street, Southsea.
From the evidence given by her daughter, Mrs. Eliza Russell, and her great-granddaughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Henwood, it appeared that the old lady, who was 87 years of age, was for the most part confined to an upstairs room. She was upstairs when Mrs. Russell went out on July 11, but later the deceased woman was found lying at the bottom of the stairs.
Dr. P. H. Green, who examined the old lady, said she was suffering from a fracture of the thigh. She developed bronchitis and subsequently hypostatic pneumonia and died on Monday.
Returning a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence, the Deputy Coroner said the fall was an accidental one and nobody was to blame.
