ASSAULTING A DAUGHTER
Thomas Littlefield, a carpenter, was charged with assaulting his daughter, Jane Emma Matthews, the wife of a butcher.
Some time since defendant was summoned for assaulting another of his daughters, also a married woman. The bench on that occasion suggested a settlement, and the summons was withdrawn, defendant promising not to repeat the assault.
The magistrates in this case suggested a compromise, but she declined to do so, stating that her father had broken his promise the same evening it was made.
Defendant was convicted and fined 10s. and costs, or seven days imprisonment.
