RYE

TREAT TO THE RYE UNION CHILDREN.--On Tuesday last, twenty-three girls, inmates of the Union, were taken to Hastings in a van, accompanied by their schoolmistress, Miss Kimpton, of this town through whose exertions aided by her private friends, the means for this kind indulgence were found. The day proved unfavourable, but the girls greatly enjoyed the treat. On Friday, the girls and boys in the Union were taken to the County Cattle Show, and thence to Cooke's circus, at both places free of charge. They expressed their gratification at both sights, although a preference was given to the later. It reflects very great credit on those persons who take warm interest in these isolated children (some of whom are orphans), in thus securing for them sources of enjoyment and gratification it is a gleam of sunshine on their path cheering their footsteps in the journey of life.
