RYE
James Lord v. Joseph Kimpton. This was a claim for 36 worth of goods, had and delivered. It appeared the the defendant, who was recently a grocer in Rye, had at previous times purchased goods of the plaintiff, who is also a grocer in the same place. Subsequently the stock-in-trade and effects of defendant were removed from the premises, and sold by auction, on 5th Jan. last. It could not be elicited in evidence that any of his creditors had received a farthing from the proceeds of the sale. The Judge animadverted in strong terms upon the grossness of the transaction, and ordered immediate payment of the amount claimed. In default, the defendant was committed to Lewes gaol for forty days.

ABUSIVE WORDS
Robert West, a labourer, was summoned for using abusive language towards Joseph Kimpton. - The complainant lives in North-road, Church-street, Landport, and the defendant lives in Cressy-place. On the afternoon of the 21st, while the former was sitting down to his tea, the defendant entered the house, and made use of the language in the information, which was to the effect that he would knock his (complainant's) nose on one side. - Two witnesses were called, and deposed to the language having been made use of. - The defendant denied having threatened the complainant. All he said was that he would garnish his nose for him. (Laughter.) He called two witnesses, who did not hear the language made use of. - The magistrates, however, thought the information proved, and fined the defendant 1s., and 11s. costs. The money was paid.
